WEB COMIC: The conversation many journalists hate, pt. 1

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if we were all so cavalier to introduce our grievances about topic X as soon as we learn about someone’s allegiance to said topic. Or how inappropriate it would be if we talked about a stranger’s recently deceased relatives the way we talk about their recently laid-off colleagues.

  1. I was at Target. TARGET! And the saleswoman was for some reason asking me lots of questions about what I was shopping for. The conversation turned to the fact that I work at the paper.

    “Ah,” she said. “The paper without the spell-check.”

    It would seriously never even OCCUR to me to criticize a complete stranger’s place of employment right off. This whole ‘reader interaction’ movement has really encouraged people to leave their manners behind.
