It seems like you're using Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this version of the map generator doesn't get along with Internet Explorer. They fight, like Jedis and the Sith. And if you don't get that reference, you need to do more than just download a newer browser. You need to watch the "Star Wars" movies.

How to generate your own map for web or print

1. Format your data with the town names with NO SPACES in the first column, town names in the second column, and data in however many columns you want, starting with the third column. You can download a zip for the responsive files here or if you just want to make a print map, download the Excel template here. The town names do NOT need to be in any order.

2. Paste your data in this field.

3. Click here to select your data set.

5. Select your color.

6. Select how many shades you want to use.

7. Click here to preview your map.
7. Click here to preview your choropleth.
8. Click here to generate your code.

9. To make a web version, download these files if you didn't already do so in step 1. Copy the code in the box above and paste it inside the file called code.js. Then open the HTML in a browser. You don't have to edit or change any of the other files.

10. To make a print version, select the print command. Instead of printing, though, use that window to save it as a PDF. That PDF will be editable in Illustrator.
